The Sunset of the Stalin Era

Project Summary

Analyzes developments in Soviet Society from the end of World War II to the formation of the new, consolidated Soviet leadership in 1955-1957. Not a political history, but an exploration of economic, social and cultural developments in order to illuminate the relationship between coercion and persuasian in a political system, political leaders’ drive for power and their desire to meet the needs of the citizenry and the tension between advocates of change and those who prefer the status quo.
