"Promoting the Rule of Law in China: The Role of Shanghai's Soochow Law School"

Project Summary

A history of Shanghai's Soochow School (1915-1952), known as the "Comparative Law School of China," and one of the most influential professional schools of the period. This study will provide a detailed analysis of the school's programs, including its unique offerings in "Anglo-American law," and will draw comparisons with legal education in contemporary China. The study will also analyze the career patterns of its faculty and graduates, both before and after 1949, emphasizing the important role they have played in the development of a modern legal profession in China during the twentieth century.
