Expert Bio

Dr. Liu Aming is a professor in Institute of International Relations, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). From postgraduate period, Liu Aming focused her research on the U.S. foreign policy and Sino-U.S. relations. After got the M.A on history from Nanjing University in 2002, she started 3 years doctoral studies and received Ph.D in 2005. From then to now, she works in SASS. Her research and teaching focuses on East Asia international relations and China’s foreign policy. She has been a visiting scholar in Maryland University, the U.S. and Sungshin Women’s University, South Korea for 6 and 3 months respectively. She also authored over 20 scholarly papers on Contemporary Asia-Pacific Studies, World Economics and Politics, American Studies Quarterly, Contemporary International Relations, etc., and 2 books: "A Changing East Asia and Sino-U.S. Relations" (Beijing: Intellectual Rights Publishing House) and "Bush Doctrine and Neoimperialism" (Beijing: Current Affairs Publishing House).

"The Evolution of China’s SCS Politics and the U.S."

Project Summary

From 2009, China’s South China Sea (SCS) policies, as well as the stances of the formulation for these policies, attracted more and more research efforts both in China and in foreign countries. The research is aimed at describing how China’s domestic factors and international dynamics, especially the U.S. role, contribute to the formulation of China’s SCS policies in the policy-decision process.
