Glasnost: Trust and International Security

Project Summary

Shows that glasnost is one of the confidence building factors in East-West relations. Clarifies limist, showing that the legacy of Marxism and Leninism and the unity of the USSR as a state are questioned within these limits. Argues that the practical dimensions of glasnost are connected with the emergence of the free press, less ideological social science, and the realization of the Soviet citizens’ rights for international communication
