"Energy Security Policy in Europe: Relations with Russia and National Preference Formation"

Project Summary

During the 2011 – 2012 academic year Callie was a Research Fellow at the Streit Council for a Union of Democracies in Washington DC, where she worked on European energy policy and integration issues.  She also worked on international energy policy issues as a consultant at the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria, VA.  Callie is a facilitator for the United States Institute of Peace’s Strategic Economic Needs and Security Exercise (SENSE) simulation, which focuses on negotiations and decision-making in a post-conflict environment.

Callie is currently working on her dissertation, entitled “External Actors and National Preference Formation: European Energy Security Policy and Relations with Russia.” While at the Wilson Center, Callie will be working on three of the case studies that make up the core of her dissertation.  These case studies concern three Eastern European member states, Poland, Lithuania and Bulgaria and how their relations with Russia have or have not impacted energy security policy choices both domestically and at the European level.
