David Cheng Chang received his doctoral degree in history from the University of California, San Diego in 2011. Currently he is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for East Asian Studies, Stanford University.  His dissertation, “To Return Home or ‘Return to Taiwan’: Conflicts and Survival in the ‘Voluntary Repatriation’ of Chinese POWs in the Korean War,” examines how Chinese prisoners of war, individually and collectively, made decisions and took actions in the process of “voluntary repatriation." His other research interests include comparative history of POWs’ post-repatriation experiences in mainland China and Taiwan, and elections and constitutionalism in twentieth-century China.
