David Finkel is an American journalist for the Washington Post. He won a Pulitzer Prize there in 2006 as a staff writer and as of 2017 he is national enterprise editor of the Post as well as a member of their foreign staff division. He is a 2012 MacArthur Fellow.

While in residence at the Wilson Center as a Public Policy Scholar in 2008, David Finkel wrote the prequel to Thank You for Your Service, which is titled, The Good Soldiers. It describes the several months Finkel spent in Baghdad in 2007 as an embedded reporter with the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The book won the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize in 2010.
