Project Summary

Studies the relationship and interaction between culture, politics and society as they intersected in the world of theater during the revolution, Civil War and NEP. Emphasizes the grass-roots cultural practices in order to demonstrate the degree to which the theatrical culture of the 1920s was a product of the negotiation between the regime and society. Addresses continuity and change in culture.
