Full Biography
A 2007 – 2009 Journalism Fellow at The Asia Society, he was the recipient of the 2008 Lange-Taylor Prize, and was the recipient of a Knight International Journalism Fellowship, a Ruhr Grant from the University of Dortmund and the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism, as well as grants from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and The Nation Institute. Last fall he was a journalist-in-residence at a research institute affiliated with Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Ilan has written for The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Slate, US News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, and Travel & Leisure, among other publications.
