Uzbek Ethnic Elites

Project Summary

the ethnic elites of Soviet Uzbekistan have made use of glasnost to articulate a variety of proposals for change, some of them clearly nationalistic in inspiration. The purpose of this research is to determine the extent to which these themes may have roots in earlier currents of Uzbek elite nationalism that have found expression during the Soviet period, i.e. whether they are part of a historical continuum.
