    Full Biography

    Julia K. Parrish is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Diversity in the College of the Environment at the University of Washington.  She holds a joint Professorship position in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, and in the Department of Biology, and an Adjunct Professorship in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs.  For more than 20 years, Julia has examined the role aggregation plays in the ecology and conservation of marine organisms, from schooling fish to colonially nesting birds.  A winner of the UW Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008 for her pioneering efforts to create an interdisciplinary program in Marine Biology, Parrish is also the Executive Director of the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST), a citizen science program involving over 800 participants collecting monthly data on the identity and abundance of beach-cast birds.
