Everyday Life in Revolutionary Russia: Working-Class Drinking and Taverns in St. Petersburg, 1900-1929

Project Summary

Examines the main leisure activty of working-class males in early twentieth-century Russia in order to address the increasing separation of work and leisure, the impact of great political upheaval on everyday life, the political implications of cultural struggle and the fate of worker culture in a workers’ state. Investigates drink as a normal component of sociability in working communities.
