Project Summary

Examines Russian postmodernism as a border culture, based on the concept of displacement or deterriation of time and place through nonsynchronous memory or nostalgia. Places Russian literature of the 1960s/1970s as the historical precursors to Russian postmodernism (as opposed to outside influences or the 1920s), despite the presence totalitarian regime. Cites peristroika as the first moment at which these literatures could become visible. Lipovetsky’s work attempts to locate and specify the nature of Russian postmodernism.
