Soviet Literature and Literary Politics in the 1980s

Project Summary

major tendencies in current Soviet literature from the period of the Metropol’ affair and its immediate aftermath (1979-1980) to the present. Includes a discussion of both officially published and unofficial writers, and draws upon scholarly materials, unpublished manuscripts, tape-recorded interviews and unofficial readings, stenographic materials, and videotapes collected over the last two years. Examination of works by Rejn, Petrusevskaja, Makanin, Kim, Tolstaja, Prigov, Erofeev, and Popov.
