Peter Mandaville is the director of the Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies and associate professor of government at George Mason University, where he was also the founding director of the Center for Global Studies. Mandaville is also a senior fellow in foreign policy studies at the Brookings Institution. His current research focuses on the comparative study of religious authority and social movements in the Muslim world, specifically emphasizing youth groups, transitional networks, and media. He has published numerous books as well as articles. Mandaville has testified before Congress and has consulted for government, media, and NGOs regarding political Islam and contemporary Muslim works affairs in general. During the Arab Spring he served as a member of the Secretary of State’s Planning Staff at the United States Department of State.
