The Rise and Fall of the Communist Federations: The Disintegration of Yugoslavia and the USSR and American Foreign Policy

Project Summary

A look at ethnic conflicts in the former Soviet Union and in Eastern Europe. Expresses a belief that U.S. policy towards the former Yugoslavia was designed to prevent the disintegration of the USSR. Examines indications that the Bush administration wanted to send a message that it supported Gorbachev by expressing support towards the unity of the Yugoslav state.
