    Full Biography

    Robert Simon is majority staff director of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee under its chairman, Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.).  He began his career in Washington at the National Research Council in 1983 where he worked for six years.  He served as principal deputy director for the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Research from 1993 to 1997, during which time he was also a science fellow for the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.   He then served as a technology adviser to Sen. Bingaman in 1997-98, and as a policy analyst for the Joint Economic Committee in 1998-99, before being brought back to the Energy and Natural Resources Committee by Bingaman in 1999 as minority staff director.  He earned a B.S. degree from Ursinus College, and a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
