The Impact of the USSR’s Great Terror on Soviet Society, 1935-1941

Project Summary

Examines the way Soviets felt about their regime in the years 1935-1941 (the Great Terror). Investigates the extent of atomization -- the breakdown of social relationships under pressure of terror or demands of state loyalty. Looks into the way that the Stalinist system operated and the degree to which it was conditioned by terror.
