Stories about the New People: Student Radicalism, Higher Education and Social Identity in Russia, 1899-1921

Project Summary

Beginning with the first student strike in 1899, and closing with the consolidation of Soviet power in higher education, this study chronicles the student movment and its importance in the 1905 revolution. In addition, it profiles the crisis of student political identity, and the practices of student radicalism. Integrates class and gender issues, as well as urbanism.
