The Wilson Center’s newest initiative is focusing on the changing environments at the Earth’s poles. From melting ice to energy production and the daily lives of residents, the Arctic and Antarctic will be receiving increased attention and the Wilson Center’s Polar Initiative will be ahead of the curve on many of those emerging topics. We spoke with David Biette, director of the new initiative, and that discussion provides the focus for this edition of Wilson Center NOW.

Polar Institute

Since its inception in 2017, the Polar Institute has become a premier forum for discussion and policy analysis of Arctic and Antarctic issues, and is known in Washington, DC and elsewhere as the Arctic Public Square. The Institute holistically studies the central policy issues facing these regions—with an emphasis on Arctic governance, climate change, economic development, scientific research, security, and Indigenous communities—and communicates trusted analysis to policymakers and other stakeholders.  Read more
