The Image of the New City Environment in Soviet Culture (late 50s, early 60s)
Project Summary
Looks at the dehumanization of Soviet cities, noting the connection to features of government policy regarding new cities as appendages either to new big industry or as research institutes for the military-industrial complex. Further examines the perception of residents of the failed romance between the ideal city and the actuality. Reviews the disconnect between the city as an ideological tool and the disappointment of the actual environment. In response, this project reconstructs the cultural purports of the late 50s and early 60s and builds the image of the environment from the gragments of mass steroetypes in order to examine the cahnge in behavior and value system of residents.
