January 1-February 1, 1978: "The Female Industrial Labor Force: Dilemmas, Reassessments and Options in Current Policy Debates" - (Short-Term Grant) A discussion of Soviet controversies surrounding the use of female labor and the conflicting pressures of economic and demographic trends in the late 1970s. This paper links a socio-economic reading to an analysis of the complex policy problems, a problem, states Lapidus, stemming from extreme independence of female work and family roles.
