Prof. Javier Benayas is Full Professor of Ecology at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). One of its main lines of work focuses on the management of visitors in protected natural areas. Since 2008, he has been involved in different research projects on the Antarctic, participating in seven campaigns. His first works focused on identifying the environmental impacts caused by tourist activities on this continent. These investigations evolved towards a more detailed analysis of the introduction of alien species and more specifically on the presence of exotic species in the edaphic fauna of collembola. He is part of the UAM's research group on Biology and Ecology in Polar Environments (ECOPOLAR).
