Valentyna Matsuzato holds a Ph.D. degree in political science from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Her main research interests include decentralization and multilevel governance. She is a member of the Japan Council for Russian and East European Studies. Earlier, Valentyna edited a data set “Regional Political Elites in Ukraine,” hosted by the University of Tokyo. She is the recipient of a Marie Curie Fellowship to conduct research on territorial politics in Ukraine during the transition from authoritarian rule and a Chevening Scholarship to study good governance in the context of Ukraine’s regional differences at the University of Edinburgh.
