"From Opposition to Government: The National Action Party in Mexico"
Project Summary
This book project will analyze the experience of the PAN as it transforms from an ineffectual opposition party to a party in government which can effectively challenge PRI political dominance. The purpose of the book is to address three main questions: What accounts for the PAN's rapid electoral expansion during the early 1980's? How do PAN officials run the government? And, what are the dilemmas and challenges this party confronts when it meets electoral success? The strengthening of the PAN forms a major part in the transformation of Mexico from a one party state to a competitive political regime.
