WASHINGTON - The Wilson Center family mourns the passing of Anthony Shadid – a remarkable reporter and unwavering champion for justice. His courageous, insightful reports from the most volatile and dangerous parts of the Middle East provided a context that was always informative and compassionate. People and situations took on more depth and dimension when he wrote about them. Having survived a shooting and abduction, we believed he could get through any situation, and his death is an unexpected blow. His rich legacy will help guide the work of the Center’s Middle East Program and of his colleagues here: Haleh Esfandiari, Aaron David Miller, Robin Wright, David Ottaway, Carlyle Murphy and many others. We extend our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.
