Women, Work, and COVID-19 in MENA
The COVID-19 pandemic is reshuffling the global economy, shutting down some sectors and spurring growth in others. To highlight this issue, the Middle East Program presents, "Women, Work, and COVID-19 in MENA," a blog series that aims to better understand the new dynamics facing women in the labor market.
In the Middle East and North Africa region, the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic are exacerbating preexisting economic, political, and social vulnerabilities, and are threatening to further deepen challenges pertaining to female labor force participation and in some countries turning back vital progress in women's employment. As economies navigate the post-lockdown terrain, the region's public and private sectors must work together to protect women's employment and support their re-entrance to the workforce.
