HHS Secretary Announces Plans to Visit Taiwan
Statement from Asia Program Director, Abraham Denmark
"Both the Clinton and Obama administrations sent cabinet members to Taiwan. A visit by Secretary Azar is not unprecedented, although the amount of fanfare and surrounding his trip is certainly unusual. Considering China’s successful efforts to exclude Taiwan from a meeting of the World Health Assembly, close coordination with Taipei on public health issues is entirely appropriate. Moreover, Taiwan’s government has been incredibly successful at containing and managing the pandemic."
