On behalf of the Wilson Center, I am saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We join the people of the United Kingdom and those across the world as we all mourn her loss. Just this past summer, we celebrated the Queen’s life and accomplishments during the Platinum Jubilee. It makes this moment even more poignant.
Queen Elizabeth was not only a marvelous leader who unified her people during many moments of challenge, but she so often unified the West. In war and in peace, she exemplified the United Kingdom’s values and resilience.
Queen Elizabeth’s legacy will live as an inspiration to future generations. She led her nation with dignity, grace and humor through years of extraordinary change; we have all learned from her experience.
As the son of a London-born mother, I know the special place Queen Elizabeth has occupied in the hearts of her people and the history of her nation. More than that, we have all admired her steady leadership over the decades. Her passing is a loss to us all.
