Forum on Cyber-Harassment
The Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute, in partnership with Senator Josefina Vázquez Mota, who presides over the Mexican Senate’s committee on the rights of the child, will host a three-part forum on cyber-harassment and the use of technology in gender violence and gender-related crimes. The purpose of the forum is to understand the root causes of technology-assisted gender-based violence and explore the legislative, civil society, and private sector actions that can help mitigate cyber-harassment.
Overview
The summit will feature insights from a broad range of actors from across the world to inform the audience of successful strategies and best practices and efforts that have not proved fruitful in the fight against technology-assisted gender-based violence.
The first panel will include policymakers and experts who have worked on initiatives, policies, and public programs to address cyber-harassment. They will assess the feasibility and efficacy of distinct policies and offer experiential and scholarly insights on the policy options for preventing technology-assisted gender- based violence.

The second panel will focus on civil society programs and on the activism that has shed light on the urgent need to reduce gender-based violence in cyberspace. This panel will chart the history of the issue and the watershed cases that have led to improved protection mechanisms for those who are most vulnerable to gender-motivated aggression online. It will also outline programmatic and procedural deficiencies and the challenges and opportunities for improvemen
