Widespread impunity and the lack of access to justice for victims of human rights violations remain serious challenges in Mexico. Increased attacks against journalists, human rights activists, and elected officials in recent months indicate that more needs to be done to strengthen the rule of law. In a report published this month, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights emphasized the frequency of extrajudicial killings, disappearances, and acts of violence against journalists as main factors contributing to Mexico’s “severe human rights crisis.” Please join us for a discussion with foremost experts on Mexico regarding the human rights challenges facing the country and what should be done to address them. Refreshments will be served.
