Carlos Lins da Silva holds a PhD and a “livre docência” (a post-doctorate degree) from the University of São Paulo and a MA from Michigan State University, this obtained as a Fulbright scholar. He was a writer-in-residence at Teresa Lozano Long Institute of the University of Texas at Austin (2003), a visiting scholar at the Center for Latin American Studies of Georgetown University, in Washington (1991-1992), a visiting professor at the College of Communication Arts and Sciences of Michigan State University (1989) and a fellow at the Latin American Program of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (1987-1988). In Brazil, he taught at the University of São Paulo and others. As a journalist, he was deputy editor-in-chief of the daily newspapers “Folha de S. Paulo” and “Valor Econômico”. At Folha, he was also managing editor, US correspondent and ombudsman. Presently he is senior consultant at the São Paulo Research Foundation.
