The Pakistan-China-Russia Relationship: An Emerging Coalition?
The strong relationship between China and Pakistan, as illustrated most recently by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, has long played a key role in Asia’s geopolitics. However, broader regional developments over the last few months also raise the possibility of a new coalition involving Pakistan, China, and Russia. This event focuses on the evolving relationship between the three countries; considers how real and potentially effective this trilateral partnership may or may not be; and highlights the possible implications for U.S. policy in the region.
Overview
The strong relationship between China and Pakistan, as illustrated most recently by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, has long played a key role in Asia’s geopolitics. However, broader regional developments over the last few months—including growing ties between Moscow and Islamabad and increasing cooperation in Afghanistan between Moscow, Islamabad, and Beijing—also raise the possibility of a new coalition involving Pakistan, China, and Russia. This event, hosted in collaboration with INDUS, a Washington DC-based research organization, focuses on the evolving relationship between the three countries; considers how real and potentially effective this trilateral partnership may or may not be; and highlights the possible implications for U.S. policy in the region.
