Lauren TerMaat is a Staff Assistant Intern for the Mexico Institute at the Wilson Center. Lauren is currently a senior at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in economics and Spanish with a minor in constitutional studies. She is especially interested in understanding democratic political institutions, the rule of law, and the role of the executive in Latin America, particularly in Mexico. She began interning with the Mexico Institute in June 2023. She has studied abroad in Santiago, Chile and has served as a teaching assistant and tutor for the Notre Dame Department of Romance Languages. Lauren is originally from Grand Rapids, MI, is fluent in Spanish, and is a proud member of the Notre Dame varsity rowing team.
