Call for Applications: Chun and Jane Chiu Family Foundation Fellowship in Taiwan Studies

The History and Public Policy Program invites applications for the Chun and Jane Chiu Family Foundation Fellowship in Taiwan Studies, a program designed to support policy-relevant historical research on modern Taiwan.

Fellowship recipients will receive a research stipend ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 USD, depending on the number of fellowships awarded and based on the merits of the individual proposals. The funds may be flexibly utilized by recipients during the summer and/or fall of 2023 as long as they are for purposes legitimately connected to the research project outlined in the original proposal.

Recipients will be expected to share some of their findings and work with the Wilson Center community through a blog post(s) for the Sources & Methods blog, a working paper, a webinar presentation, contributions to DigitalArchive.org, or some other mutually agreed upon activity following the fellowship period.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from historians and historically-minded researchers studying Taiwan’s domestic politics, society, and international relations during the Cold War era and those whose research has a strong archival dimension to it. Researchers working on other time periods or topics in Taiwan’s history are still welcome to apply.

Applicants must have received a doctorate in their field of study or be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program.

1. A current curriculum vitae (3 pages, max)
2. A proposal that introduces the research project and its significance and explains how the fellowship will support the project (2-3 pages)

The application deadline is Sunday, February 26, 2023, by 11:59 EST. The History and Public Policy Program will commence a review of all applications at that time with the goal of announcing the results within 30 days.
